Vou viver 5 meses no país mais diferente de Portugal que havia para escolher. Quando decidi fazer Erasmus, confesso que a escolha não foi muito difícil, tinha 3 opções e 3 critérios; para mim era mandatário que tinha de ser um país culturalmente diferente, longe e que pudesse andar na rua sem perceber nada do que diziam.

Lituânia, quem diria! É um daqueles países do Báltico que têm todos nomes muito parecidos, sabem? A Lituânia é o da ponta, aquele que faz fronteira com a Polónia, a Bielorússia e Letônia. Um país pequenino, onde se fala lituano e faz um frio desgraçado! Um país onde a moeda é o euro e o fuso horário de +2 horas. Se quiserem ligar, marquem +370.

A capital Vilnius, onde vou ficar, é considerada Património Mundial. Tem uma das mais antigas faculdades da Europa, uma rede de transportes fantástica e enormes áreas verdes.

Agrada-me que haja mar, que haja natureza e cultura. Agrada-me que seja um país seguro, pequeno e acolhedor. Tem uma localização fantástica no mapa da Europa, está a dois passos da Suécia, Noruega, Finlândia e mesmo da Rússia. Dentro do país, temos a dois passos Kaunas, Trakai, Klaipèda ou Palanga.

É um tesouro da Europa bem guardado na sombra dos países escandinavos.

I'll be living for 5 months in the most different country possible.. When I made up my mind about actually going on Erasmus, I must confess, the choice wasn't that hard, I had 3 options and 3 criteria; for me, it had to be a country with a completely different culture, faraway and one where I could simply walk in the street without understanding a thing.

Lithuania, who would guess? It is one of those baltic countries that have all too similar names, you know? Lithuania is the one at the south tip, the one that borders Poland, Bielorussia and Latvia. A small country where you speak Lithuanian. Plus, it´s cold as hell! A country that uses the euro as coin and has a +2 hours time zone when compared with Portugal. If you wanna call, dial +370.

The capital, Vilnius, is where I'll be staying and it is considered a World Heritage Site. It has one of the oldest universities in Europe, a well-developed system of public transports and a lot of green areas. I'm pleased that there's sea, nature and culture. I'm also pleased that it is a small, welcoming and safe country. It has a fantastic location within the Europe where you're a minute away from Sweden, Norway, Finland and even Russia. Within Lithuania, you're a minute away from Kaunas, Trakai, Klaipèda or Palanga. It is a well kept treasure of Europe that has been hidden in the shadow of Scandinavian countries.
